Function of Optical Cable Splice Box

Optical cable splice boxes protect and organize fiber splices, ensuring minimal signal loss and reliable network performance.Purpose and FunctionOptical cable splice boxes, also known as fiber optic splice closures, are designed to house and protect spliced fiber optic cables from environmental hazards such as moisture, dust, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical stress. They are essential in FTTH, FTTX, and backbone networks, providing organized cable management, easy access for maintenance, and long-term durability of fiber connections .Types of Splice BoxesDome/Vertical Closures: Suitable for underground or direct burial applications, accommodating 24 to 960 fiber cores. Their dome shape ensures superior sealing and mechanical protection .Inline/Horizontal Closures: Used for extending fiber connections across network points, available in flat or cylindrical designs, supporting 24 to 144 cores .Clamshell Closures: Feature a buckle-locking design for medium-scale projects, accommodating 24 to 48 cores, and allow easier installation and maintenance .Installation ProcedureFiber Preparation: Remove the outer jacket, shielding, and armor to expose the loose tubes. Clean the loose tubes and strength member sheath with detergent, remove excess filling, and abrade the outer sheath for about 150mm .Cable Installation: Select sealing rings matching the cable diameter, insert the cable into the entry hole, connect and ground the shield, and wrap self-adhesive sealing tape to form a sealed cable end. Secure the cable with a hose clamp or throat hoop and tighten screws to the recommended torque (25 N·m), .Fiber Splicing: Coil 1.5 turns of fiber behind the tray, use single-core or ribbon buffer tubes as appropriate, and perform fusion splicing using a splicing machine. Excess fiber is coiled in the tray, and the tray is locked in place .Closure Sealing: Cover the splice tray, close the box gently, and tighten fastening bolts in sequence. Ensure all unused ports are sealed with plugs and sealing tape to prevent leakage .Maintenance and Best PracticesRegular Inspection: Check for moisture, dust, or mechanical damage inside the box.Proper Handling: Avoid bending fibers below the minimum bending radius (>30mm) to prevent signal loss .Splice Quality: Use fusion splicing for permanent, low-loss connections (
