It runs from Mtunzini in South Africa to Port Sudan in Sudan, with landing points in nine countries and connections to at least ten landlocked nations, reducing reliance on satellite internet. EASSy has a 2 fiber-pair configuration with a design capacity exceeding 10 terabits per second and provides direct connectivity to Europe and North America, with built-in end-to-end resilience and interconnections to other international submarine networks. The cable entered service in July 2010, partially funded by the World Bank . 2Africa is another transformative submarine cable project, designed to enhance connectivity between Africa, Europe, and Asia. It integrates with existing systems like SEA-ME-WE 5 and AAE-1, offering high capacity and faster transmission to meet growing bandwidth demands. This initiative spans Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, targeting regions where broadband access is limited or expensive.
